About me

Welcome to ‘a Path Through the Valley’, where I write out some of my thoughts on a variety of topics, including  UK politics, poverty, disability and chronic illness. Occasionally, I ‘translate’ some of the complex sciencey stuff about ME and CFS into something actually readable by sufferers – if you have a request, drop me a line.

I suffered from ME since I was 15, which became severe during my last year in university. I spent over a year mostly in bed, where I learned the arts of patience and crochet. It opened my eyes to a lot of the injustice in our society, right at the time where it was really starting to cascade. It also gave me a lot of time to think. As the best Christmas present ever, I miraculously got better (you can read about that here:  https://apaththroughthevalley.wordpress.com/2012/12/21/the-end-of-a-world/).

The blog isn’t updated much any more because the basis of most of my posts was my experience day-to-day with the personal and political frustrations of living with a severe chronic illness. With that oh-so-thankfully gone I find myself with less to say on the subject that wouldn’t be mere repetition, and so I shall leave this important work to others better qualified than myself.

  1. Congrats on getting back to your life! That’s so great. Can I ask, what was the dramatic intervention? I have ME / CFS so am always interested in other people’s recoveries (you may have already posted about it,but I’ve just stumbled upon your blog so haven’t read everything yet!). I look forward to following your blog.

    • Thanks for commenting :) I enjoyed checking out your blog, have added it to my list!
The intervention was answered prayer, I wrote about it here: https://apaththroughthevalley.wordpress.com/2012/12/21/the-end-of-a-world/
There’s a book called “Recovery from CFS” if you are interested in peoples recovery stories, although it appeared to me that most people in the book were actually suffering from some other disease which had been mis-labelled.
I think this page rather badly needs re-doing, heh…
